I have decided that August is going to be all about the ladies by putting a distinctly feminine flavour on everything I’m sharing. Why? Well, why not?!?
I hadn’t intended August to be a feature month for women, but as I was grabbing some groceries from the shop this morning, Helen Reddy’s I Am Woman was playing over the speakers. While not one of my favourite songs, I can’t help but sing along to the feminist lyrics - “I am strong (strong), I am invincible (invincible), I am woman”.
Often the term girl or woman is used to infer weakness, but here Helen has turned it into an adjective that packs more of a punch than strong and invincible. Like it is the ultimate word for describing strength. Of course you are going to want to hold your head a bit higher, stand a bit straighter and walk with more confidence when you take that in. You want to give all the ladies nearby a high five. You want to gather your girlfriends round and belt out the lyrics (aka the karaoke scene in Sex and the City 2). Okay, maybe you don’t want to go that far, but let’s just agree that the feminist in all of us does do a little happy dance.
Hopefully you enjoy celebrating all things women with me this month
