I didn’t have any knowledge of what Myrrh was except a vague biblical reference as one of the gifts given to the baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men. In my research I discovered Myrrh essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Myrrh tree. It has been documented throughout history in embalming and religious ceremonies, and has been used as a perfume, incense and health aid.

I was familiar with Geranium from having grown up with a couple of varieties of them in the garden, but I thought they just flowered and looked pretty. I didn’t realise there was more to them than meets the eye.

As an Australian, I have grown up around Eucalyptus trees, which we also refer to as Gum Trees. For those of you not so familiar with them, they are tall, evergreen trees that grow up to 50 feet tall. Our iconic animal, the Koala, lives on a diet consisting of mainly Eucalyptus leaves.

Like other citrus oils, Bergamot has the chemical component Limonene which is commonly known for its uplifting aromatic characteristics. Bergamot differs though due its ability to also be calming to the emotions, while still uplifting. It also differs by having a bitter tasting fruit that yields a sweet essential oil.

The Oil of Truth
Frankincense has the title of being the King of Oils, and for good reason. Its history can be traced through civilisations of Babylonians, Assyrians and ancient Egyptians. Frankincense has also been associated with a number of religions, most notably Christianity where it was one of the gifts given to the baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men. Historically, Frankincense has been used in ceremonies, perfumes and salves.
With its warm, spicy aroma, Frankincense promotes feelings of peace and relaxation, as well as spiritual and emotional wellness. When applied topically, its soothing and beautifying properties help to revitalise the appearance of the skin and to reduce the appearance of imperfections.
Emotionally, Frankincense is known as the Oil of Truth. It invites individuals to let go of lower vibrations, lies, deceptions and negativity. It is a powerful cleanser of spiritual darkness and by connecting the soul with its inner light, this oil reveals the truth. Frankincense supports in creating a healthy attachment with one’s father and can enhance practices of prayer and meditation.
Frankincense comes in a 15mL bottle and combined with Fractionated Coconut Oil in a convenient roll-on applicator as Frankincense Touch. When using topically, I suggest diluting with a carrier oil to minimise any skin sensitivity.
Here are some practical ways you can use Frankincense at home:
Add a couple of drops to your bath for relaxation and to revitalise your skin.
Diffuse during prayer or meditation to enhance spiritual connection.
Add a drop to your moisturiser to help reduce the appearance of skin imperfections.
Massage on the bottoms of feet to promote feelings of relaxation and to balance mood.
Rub into your hands, neck, or bottoms of feet for a soothing, warming effect.
Massage on the temples throughout the day to balance the emotions and enable a calm contented feeling.
Roll on pulse points and forehead during yoga or meditation.

A Drop of... Spearmint
The Oil of Confident Speech
With its sweet, minty scent, dōTERRA's Spearmint essential oil is wonderfully refreshing - both as an aroma and as a flavouring. To make the most of that fresh mint smell, it can be diffused to uplift the mood and leave any room smelling fresh and clean. It is very versatile in the kitchen as it can be used in drinks, marinades, salads and desserts. Not only does it taste delicious, but it also promotes digestion.
Spearmint has been widely used in gums, candies and dental products for both its minty taste and to promote fresh breath. You can get these benefits naturally by adding a drop to your toothbrush before cleaning your teeth.
Emotionally, Spearmint is known as the Oil of Confident Speech. It inspires clarity of thought and confident verbal expression. It is also a brilliant choice if you are feeling weary and want to feel refreshed.
While different from Peppermint, Spearmint is a great milder option to use topically on children and those with sensitive skin.
