A Drop of... Bergamot

The Oil of Self-Acceptance

Bergamot essential oil comes from cold pressing the rind of the bergamot fruit grown primarily in coastal Reggio di Calabria, Italy. In this region, the fresh sea air and acidic soil allows the bergamot to thrive and produce the highest quality pure essential oil. Through dōTERRA’s Co-Impact Sourcing Initiative, we can ensure fair wages and guaranteed work for the growers running their family orchards. The Italians have used Bergamot for years for its calming aroma and to rejuvenate the skin.

Like other citrus oils, Bergamot has the chemical component Limonene which is commonly known for its uplifting aromatic characteristics. Bergamot differs though due its ability to also be calming to the emotions, while still uplifting. It also differs by having a bitter tasting fruit that yields a sweet essential oil.

Bergamot is known as the Oil of Self-Acceptance and can support individuals in need of self-acceptance and self-love. Bergamot invites individuals to see life with more optimism and teaches them to let go of self-judgement by learning to love themselves unconditionally.

To create a calm, relaxed environment diffuse Bergamot in the classroom, at work or at home. You can use Bergamot topically by blending it with Fractionated Coconut Oil for a calming and relaxing massage. When applied to the skin, you can also enjoy its cleansing and clarifying benefits. Applying to the bottom of your feet before bedtime promotes a sense of calm and harmony as you prepare for a peaceful sleep.

As a flavouring oil, you can add a drop of Bergamot to a glass of water for a refreshing taste. You can also add a drop (or two depending on your preference) to regular tea to change it to Earl Grey.
